Story / Book Coaching
Story Coaching or Book Coaching is for writers or aspiring authors who have an idea for a story, or maybe even a partial or full draft already written, who would like some accountability and/or professional guidance with proceeding, getting across the finish line, or revising a book manuscript draft. PostScripts offers two coaching options for fiction and memoir writers: Interactive Story Coaching and Writer's Choice Flex Sessions.

Interactive Story Coaching
With this interactive approach, you'll get one-on-one meetings and
specific assignments to work on that will lead to progress on your story. You'll send back completed assignments (questionnaires, worksheets, or story scenes) for review, which we'll discuss at the next meeting, to ensure that you story is on the right track, keeping in mind your genre, intentions, and overall goals. You can choose up to four Interactive Sessions per month, set up on an automatic payment schedule, with a minimum committment of three months. This option is great for writers who want accountability and are committed to getting the necessary work done to complete the project. Meeting times are flexible, and missed sessions can be carried over for up to two months. Each Interactive Session includes:
  • 1 hour of meeting time via Zoom
  • Up to 3,000 words reviewed/edited
  • Customized assignments after each meeting
Interactive Story Coaching Rates:
  • 1 session per month: $170
  • 2 sessions per month: $306
  • 3 sessions per month: $408
  • 4 sessions per month: $500

Writer's Choice Flex Sessions
If you'd like more flexibility with your book coaching, these hourly packages allow you to customize our time together. You can use your time to send written pages for feedback and/or editing, to schedule a quick consultation when you need it, or for any combination of the two. Feedback and guidance on specific pages of a small or large project can provide assurance that your writing is on track and can be customized to focus on whichever aspect you'd like, such as big-picture developmental guidance, sentence-level editing, critique on how the content fits within the larger scope of the project, or assistance with assessing/implementing feedback from critique partners, beta readers, or other editors. Consultations can be used to discuss ideas or to get questions answered about anything related to writing, editing, or publishing.
All session packages require full payment upfront, but scheduling is completely flexible! And additional hours can be added on at a discounted rate (locked in for one year after initial package purchase).

Flex Session Package Rates
4-Hour Package: $476 (additional hours: 5% discount)
6-Hour Package: $642 (10% savings
; additional hours: 10% discount)
8-Hour Package: $760 (20% savings; additional hours: 15% discount)

If you're interested in either coaching option, we will start with a 50-minute initial consultation to discuss your writing and publishing goals to help determine a coaching strategy that will best suit your needs. This initial session is also a way for us to ensure that we are a good fit for working together, and an opportunity for you to ask specific questions about your story, or any general questions about writing, editing, book coaching, or publishing. So, even if we don't end up working together beyond this session, you will get lots of helpful information and resources that you'll be able to use for your current or future projects. Either during or after the meeting, you can choose which coaching option works best for you, and you'll receive further instructions for payment, scheduling meetings, and/or sending pages for review.

Initial 50-Minute Consultation: $89

Newsletters:
Many authors, editors, and organizations offer FREE email newsletters that provide tips and resources for writers on craft, publishing, marketing, and other related topics. Many also offer perks for signing up, such as free downloadable resources and works or discounts on classes and other resources. Here are some of my favorites:
  • Elizabeth Sims Newschat: This very infrequent newsletter from an award-winning novelist comes with a package of freebies: Deep Trouble, a novelette featuring Lillian Byrd, from her popular crime series; "9 Fast Character Hacks," a brief for writers on creating believable, vibrant fictional people; and "The Lake Effect," a personal essay on being a writer from the Midwest.
  • FoxPrint Editorial Newsletter: Practical advice for writers from Tiffany Yates Martin, author of Intuitive Editing: A Creative & Practical Guide to Revising Your Writing. Freebie includes her guide "10 Tips for Editing Your Own Work" and subscribers get 10% off all FoxPrint classes.
  • Jane Friedman Newsletters: Publishing-industry expert and literary citizen Jane Friedman offers a few different free newsletters. Blog Digest is daily or weekly notifications of all blog articles on Jane's poplular site with a plethora of free information for writers. Electric Speed, a biweekly newsletter with "tools and resources to make creative life easier and more enjoyable" is her most popular, with 25K subscribers. If you want to know about upcoming classes, she has a separate email for that too. (Jane also has one paid newsletter, the Hot Sheet, that shares important publishing industry news and trends, for $59 or $79/year. Two free issues when you sign up, and a free sample here.)
  • Virtual Bookish Events Newsletter: A weekly list of free and paid online events for readers and writers, such as writing craft workshops, self-publishing webinars, book-launch readings, author chats, and literary discussions.
  • Writing Mastery Newsletter: Tips and tools from Save the Cat! Writes a Novel author, Jessica Brody (and the YA version). Freebie includes a Save the Cat beat sheet starter kit.
